At DirectLaw, we started with the belief that solo and small law firms deserve technology that empowers them to serve clients online. Our mission is to help legal professionals build a powerful online presence and deliver helpful legal services in a digital world.

Why We Exist

Back in 2010, the internet was reshaping how people interact with almost every service. Consumers booked travel, did their banking, and even interacted with their medical professionals online. Yet law firms lagged behind. Traditional practice tools focused on back-office tasks, but few solutions helped lawyers connect directly with clients online. Clients sought alternative solutions online, such as non-lawyer document preparers. We saw the need to enable legal professionals to meet the needs of an online generation of consumers. So we got to work.

DirectLaw was born as a subsidiary of SmartLegalForms, Inc., a company with deep roots in legal information and consumer-oriented legal technology. With decades of experience creating legal content, automated forms, and tools that simplify complex legal processes, our team saw an opportunity to transform how legal services are delivered.

So Then We Built It.

We created the DirectLaw Virtual Law Firm Platform: a client-facing suite of tools that adds a fully interactive online practice presence to any law firm website. Our focus wasn’t on internal office efficiency alone; it was on giving lawyers the technology to engage clients, deliver services, and grow revenue online.
